How do I set up fields in host applications to work with Twixtor and FieldsKit?

This FAQ explains how to set up fields support in the host application. To learn how to make sequences longer in your host application, click here.

After Effects (Adobe)
Specifying the interlacing of the input material:

Unlike previous versions of Twixtor, the Separate Fields feature of After Effects for source material should be set as is appropriate for the footage. (Note that you can also interpret the footage with Separate Fields set to None, which means older projects will work as expected).

If you have 3:2 pulldown in your material, you should remove it first before applying Twixtor (either using AE's pulldown removal feature, or by using our FieldsKit product).

Note that you must also specify the field order setting within Twixtor in addition to how you’ve interpreted the footage with AE's Interpret footage command.

Set AE's Separate Fields setting as is appropriate for the footage:

Interlacing upon output:

Simply set the Field Rendering setting of AE's Render Settings appropriately. If set to "Off" Twixtor will produce progressive frame material. If set to Upper Field First or Lower Field First, Twixtor will create interlaced material as appropriate, using the time-interpolation settings specified in the Twixtor plugin. Note that this requirement is different from pre-version 4 versions of Twixtor.

Set AE's Field Render setting as is desired for final output:

Commotion

Nothing special needs to be done upon input. When rendering, however, make sure field rendering is off. When selecting "Render Composite..." from the Composite menu, click on Render Options and make sure "Field-based Rendering" is NOT checked. Make sure frame blending is turned off for each composition that uses one of the RE:Vision Effects fields-savvy plugins (see manual for Commotion).

Final Cut Pro (Apple)
Specifying the input interlacing:

Note that you must also specify the input field order setting within FieldsKit or Twixtor settings. No other special setup is necesseary.

Premiere
Premiere Pro
Specifying the input interlacing:

Note you must specify the field order setting within Twixtor.

If working with interlaced material, make sure the Monitor window of Premiere Pro is set to view at 100% and at Premiere Pro's Highest Quality.

Interlacing upon output:

When setting up a new project that will use Twixtor, make sure the Project settings have the interlacing set as you desire the output footage to be. If set to "None" then Twixtor will create progressive output. When set to "Lower Field" or "Upper Field" Twixtor will create the chosen style of interlaced material using the interpolation methods as set in Twixtor.
